A person of means once kept a single trusted lawyer who knew the whole of their affairs and answered for them directly. That offered intimacy and discretion, but not the depth a complex matter now demands, nor the ability to scale. Depth and scale came to mean a large firm. The client became a file, passed through many hands and billed by the minute.

Technology and the age of information have made the older arrangement possible again. This practice provides the discreet, concierge counsel of the past, with the rigor a large firm is built to deliver. I am the lawyer who knows the whole of a client’s situation.

I represent a small number of individuals, families, and privately held businesses as their strategic counsel, across the whole of their affairs, from how a venture is structured and taxed to the disputes that test it. I develop the strategy and carry out most of the work myself. When a matter calls for a specialist, I retain and direct one, and the judgment and the responsibility remain mine.

The practice is small by design. That is what lets me advise from a full and current understanding of each client’s affairs.
